Washing Machine Assistance to Families Staying in Izmir Container City

What happened?

Aegean Sea Earthquake whose  epicenter  was the Greek island of Samos close to Seferihisar district, Izmir occurred on October, 2020. The earthquake lasted about 16 seconds.

119 people died and 1053 people were injuried in Turkey and Greece beacuse of the earthquake. It was recorded as the deadliest earthquake in 2020.

What Assistance did we deliver to Izmir?

Care Association team reached to the region some hours after the earthquake and we initially provided the aid worth of 600 thousand liras to the people of İzmir who spent the night in tents because their houses were destroyed or damaged. We delivered 250 thousand liras in cash to 250 families for their urgent needs. The remaining amount was delivered to those in need as the blankets, ready-to-eat food packages, the hygiene packages and the drinking water. 500 ready-made food packages consisting of foods that people who stayed in the tent could consume quickly without heating, such as cheese, olives, halva, were distributed to the needy ones.

Care Association did not forget the children in the region. We distributed winter coats to 300 children so that little ones will not get cold in these winter days. Since the Covid-19 epidemic continues and hygiene is at the forefront, hygiene packages consisting of disinfected and masks were distributed to our brothers who had to live in tents. Care Association also visited the tents set up in Bayraklı, Bornova. We identified 250 families whose houses were destroyed, severely damaged or who were unable to enter their homes, then we extended 1,000 TL for per family as an urgent need for cash. During the distribution, there were heart-touching moments. Some families whose good financial situation were good even though their houses were demolished, asked us to help other families in need.

Washing Machine Aid to Families Living in Izmir Container City Now!

On november 24, 2020, the 493-containers have been used as a temporary accommodation center for those families whose homes were damaged during the earthquake in Izmir on October 30. It was reported that the 21 square meters containers will be heated by central heating system, and there will be shower, toilet and hot water facilities. Care Association delivered  the washing machines  to some of the families living in container houses thru the help of our donors, The washing machines were delivered to the Governorship of İzmir to be distributed to the selected families  on 14 March 2021.
