Çare Doctors in Pangani, Tanzania!

With the Çare Doctors Project initiated by the Çare Association in 2019, the local people continue to meet with healing. Doctors of Çare is in Pangani, Tanzania for the second time with their volunteer doctors to rekindle lost hopes. More than 100 surgeries and 250 cataract surgeries were performed in the camp.

 

Greatest Despair: Deprivation

Diseases that can be solved with a simple surgery in Africa represent a great humanitarian drama for the region. Cataracts, which occur due to sandstorms in the geography, difficulty in reaching clean water and malnutrition, are among the biggest health problems. In this context, data published by the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that more than 10 million people in Africa have lost their sight due to cataracts. Many people are also at risk of losing their sight. In addition, serious health problems are observed in children who are most affected by the difficulties of the conditions in the region.

Doctors of Çare: Hope for a Second Time in Tanzania

The health camp, which was started by the Çare Association in Pangani, Tanzania on September 10, ends with its 6th day. In this process, it is aimed to remove the diseases that can be solved by simple surgeries, especially cataracts, from the agenda of the region. Çare Doctors have completed 235 cataract surgeries since the first day of the health camp. In addition, 120 operations consisting of general surgery, including pediatric surgery, and surgeries such as hernia were successfully performed.

250 Cataracts and 100 Surgical Operations in Tanzania

With the efforts of the Volunteer Çare Doctors and the support of the benefactors, we had a target of 350 operations for the health camp, which started in Tanzania on September 10, and we achieved it, alhamdulillah. Our Ophthalmology specialists who participated voluntarily from Turkiye, Op. Dr İnayet Andı and Op. Dr. Mustafa Yanık performed eye surgery operations with cataract. In addition, one of our volunteer doctors, General Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Ertan Bülbüloğlu and Pediatric Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Ahmet Necip Couples also performed various surgical operations.

Because of the damage it causes to the eyesight, cataract creates a situation that makes it difficult for the people of the region to struggle with difficult conditions. Distance to health services, inadequate health workers and health equipment are causing cataracts to be a major eye disease in Africa. In addition, due to the physical impossibilities in the field of health, diagnosing eye disorders in the region is among the difficulties experienced.

With the Health Camps, the first of which was launched in Kenya in 2019 by the Care Association, the vision problems of many people caused by cataracts were resolved. In addition to cataracts, simple diseases that can be cured with pediatric and general surgery operations are also intervened.
