Yumbe, Uganda - Our association, which has been carrying out humanitarian aid activities for years, organized a health camp in the Yumbe region of Uganda from February 1st to 10th as part of its latest project. Named "Life to Yumbe," this camp facilitated surgeries for 360 individuals and provided medical examinations for thousands of patients.
Since 2009, our association has been engaged in humanitarian aid activities such as Ramadan, Qurban, orphan support, and permanent projects. Since 2019, we have also been regularly organizing health camps. During our visit to the local hospital in Yumbe, Uganda, it was observed that there was a shortage of equipment and staff. Thousands of patients were awaiting treatment and surgery due to these deficiencies. Consequently, with the support of TİKA, a health camp was organized here. The team of Çare doctors, consisting of volunteer doctors and equipped with medication and supplies from Turkey, set off for Yumbe on the first day of February.
Upon arrival on February 2nd, the team conducted preliminary examinations for patients and commenced surgeries. Various surgeries, including cataract removal, hernia repair, and tissue damage repair due to trauma, were performed. Patients ranging from 3 to 80 years old found healing. Fatimah, a 70-year-old who underwent surgery, expressed her happiness, saying, "I was visually impaired for years. I couldn't see anything. Everything was just blurry. After the surgery, I could first see you and then my family. I am very happy."
The opportunity for patients from distant regions to undergo surgery and witnessing individuals who had been walking with a stick for years now being able to walk without support brought us great joy. General Coordinator Cihan Oktar stated,
"It is truly gratifying to facilitate the healing of patients who traveled from distant regions in hopes of finding a cure and to witness individuals who have been trying to walk with a stick for many years now walking without support, upon hearing that volunteer doctors from Turkey would come and perform free surgeries."
During the camp, thousands of patients were screened. Medication support was provided to patients who could be treated as outpatients, and meals were provided to patients who came for daily examinations or were admitted.
As the Çare Association, we extend our gratitude to the State, TİKA, donors, and volunteers who contributed to this significant endeavor. Our President, Mehmet Südlü, remarked:
"We express our gratitude to our State, TİKA, and our valued donors and volunteers who did not leave us alone in such a massive organization."
