The Moro Muslims, who were independent until the twentieth century, had lost their independence when the Moro was transferred to the administration of the Philippines by the U.S. colonial administration in 1946. When the political negotiations failed, the attacks targeting the Muslim population turned into a massacre, followed by an ethnic cleansing campaign.
Millions of people suddenly became refugees in their own land and were subjected to numerous human rights violation from attacks, tortures, forced migrations to restrictions on communication facilities.
In Moro, conflicts between Moro Muslims and the government of the Philippines have been going on for almost 40 years and more than 120 thousand Moros have lost their lives during this time. About 2 million people have also been forced to live as refugees.
Moro Muslims live in the autonomous region of Mindanao, the eastern part of the Philippines.
In 2020 Qurban organization, Care Association has conducted qurban activities in Marawi, Lanao del Norte, Iligan, Zamboanga, Baloi, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Basilan located on Mindanao island where mostly Moro Muslims reside.
The qurban meats were distributed to about 10,200 Muslim families living in those areas. In some areas, qurban meats were brought to central locations to avoid the crowds that might occur while distributing them where the government became more precautious due to Covid, so distribution was completed by the teams there.
