As Çare Association, we are back in the field with our second health camp, which we will organize on September 12, 2024, in the Yumbe region of Uganda. During our first health camp, we made a promise to the patients we couldn’t treat due to limited time: "We will come back." Now, we are setting out to keep that promise and help thousands of people regain their health.
The Yumbe region is home to hundreds of thousands of people who struggle to access healthcare services. For years, these people have been deprived of even basic healthcare services, and many patients have had to travel miles just to seek treatment. However, due to the insufficient healthcare infrastructure in the region, many patients have had to return without receiving proper treatment.
Through the health camps we organize in Yumbe, Çare Association is striving to address this major issue. In our first camp, we successfully performed 360 surgeries, but due to time constraints, we couldn’t treat all the patients, and we made them a promise: "We will come back." Now, with our second Yumbe Health Camp, we are fulfilling that promise. Our goal is to complete what was left unfinished in the previous camp and to provide healthcare services to even more people.
The first Yumbe Health Camp held last year was a great experience for both us and the local community. We performed numerous surgeries, particularly cataract surgeries, as well as general surgery, pediatrics, and eye health procedures. Our volunteer doctors worked tirelessly to treat the patients.
However, the lack of time prevented us from reaching all the patients. There were especially many elderly and children waiting for treatment. We made them a promise: "We will come back." This promise became a responsibility for the Çare Association team. Now, with the second Yumbe Health Camp, we are fulfilling that promise. We are returning with a larger team, more medical supplies, and equipment, aiming to help more patients recover.
Cataract is one of the most common health issues in Africa. Intense exposure to sunlight, malnutrition, and unhygienic living conditions contribute to the widespread occurrence of cataracts in the region. During last year’s health camp, we performed over 170 cataract surgeries. Thanks to these surgeries, many people who had been living with visual impairment for years regained their vision.
This year, our goal is to perform more than 200 cataract surgeries. Despite being relatively simple and quick procedures, many people in the region cannot access this treatment due to inadequate healthcare services. As Çare Association, with the support of our volunteer doctors and donors, we provide these surgeries free of charge, bringing light back into people’s eyes.
The Yumbe Health Camp is not limited to eye health. We also provide treatment services in various fields such as general surgery and pediatrics. Particularly, cases requiring surgery for conditions like hernias, hydrocele, and tumors, which have been awaiting treatment for a long time, will be addressed by our specialist doctors during the camp.
Last year, we achieved great success in the field of general surgery as well. Our volunteer doctors helped patients who had been suffering for years to regain their health. This year, with a larger team and more surgical interventions, we aim to solve the long-standing health issues in the region.
It’s time to keep the promises we made in Yumbe. During our first health camp, we promised the patients we couldn’t treat that we would return. This camp is not just about providing healthcare; it is about fulfilling that promise and bringing hope to people. The local community is eagerly waiting for the Çare Association team, and our volunteer doctors will work tirelessly to ensure their expectations are met.
The health camp we organize as Çare Association is made possible by the dedicated efforts of our volunteer doctors and the generous support of our donors. Every cataract surgery, every general surgical intervention, and every distributed medicine happens thanks to your contributions.
In this year’s camp, we aim to perform at least 200 cataract surgeries, 100 general surgeries, and thousands of patient consultations. During the camp, we will also distribute basic food aid and baby formula to the families in the region. You can join this movement of goodness with your donations and bring hope to the oppressed people in Yumbe.
The healthcare mobilization we initiated in the Yumbe region as Çare Association is not just about keeping a promise but also about bringing health and hope to people. We are returning to keep our promise and to heal more people. You can join this movement of goodness with your donations and help our brothers and sisters in Yumbe regain their health. Remember, "We are just the means."
